The Great Create
The award winning Great Create Festival of the Arts has taken place at National Trust’s Greenway for four consecutive years. It is one of the area's true public celebrations of the artistic talent hidden within Devon. The Great Create was founded by artist Emma Carter with one specific goal in mind: To give exceptional emerging and established artists of all disciplines a showcase to celebrate and promote their creativity to the public and their peers alike.
Greenway is situated down river from Dartmouth at Agatha Christie’s former holiday home set in the glorious woodland estate in Galmpton, Devon.
The festivals have been an inspiration to over 200,000 Greenway visitors that viewed and partaken. As in previous years, the 2011 festival saw stately sculpture showcased next to conceptual pieces and poets next to paintings in a bid to expose diverse audiences to multi art forms in a relaxed and informal way. The fourth Great Create featured contemporary British art, sculpture and performances from 80 of the regions finest practitioners. Situated with a stunning backdrop of Greenway, the 2012 festival will continue to offer an interesting insight into current art trends within the cultural community. Exhibits range from the majestic and obvious to the quiet subtle but poignant pieces, sometimes conceptual sometimes figurative.
Building upon the legacy and reputation that the Great Create has built over the years, 2010 saw Emma Carter invited to become the permanent artist in residence at Greenway. Continuing with this success, Emma and guest artists will continue in 2011 and 2012 to use Greenway as a platform to extend and further their own creative practice.
Residency will run from March until September 2012. Please click on the image below to enjoy the history of The Great Create portfolio of artists and events.
